Charger Challenger In Line for 2020 Redesign:

As hot as the Dodge Charger and Challenger are right now, the brand already is cooking up some big time changes for their projected 2020 redesigns. Now, it's true that that's a few years away, but a recent report from the experts at Autoguide.com provides an early look at what we might expect.

It will start with a shift to what's called the "Giorgio" platform, and as you could probably tell by its name, it leverages the Italian side of Dodge's corporate parent company, Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles. More specifically, the Giorgio platform is the same one used for the Alfa Romeo Giulia sport sedan. With its available 505-horsepower biturbo V6, the range-topping rocket for the Giulia lineup owns the fastest Nürburgring lap time of any four-door production sedan, and can launch from 0-60 in 3.8 seconds. All of which means that enthusiasts should have no worries about the performance capabilities of the next-gen Charger or Challenger.

In the nearer term, shoppers can look forward to a mid-cycle refreshing for both the Charger and Challenger for the 2018 model year, along with some aggressive upgrades for 2017.

The Charger kicks things off with two new 2017 Daytona models that honor a Dodge performance classic. The 2017 Charger Daytona's won't have the aerodynamic nose or massive rear wing found on the iconic 1969 editions, but they will offer a choice of two high-powered HEMI engines. The standard Daytona debuts with the 5.7-liter V8, which is good for 370 horsepower and 395 lb.-ft. of torque, while the Daytona 392 ups the ante to 6.4 liters of displacement-392 cubic inches. Packing that motivator, the Charger provides owners with 485 horses and 475 lb.-ft. of torque.

Both Daytona editions are further distinguished by distinctive Satin Black exterior graphics, a similarly shaded rear spoiler, 20-inch wheels, and hi-po braking packages. In fact, the Charger Daytona 392 is backed by Brembo stoppers.

The Dodge Challenger follows the same basic pattern with its new T/A models, offering retro design cues from the originals, plus the two HEMI V8s, multiple design and performance upgrades. Additionally, the Challenger T/A versions benefit from a cold-air induction system from Mopar-Dodge's well-known aftermarket partner-and an exclusive front lighting treatment. Inspired by the "Air Catcher" headlamps on the Challenger Hellcat, and accented by LED "T/A" logos, this setup is equal parts stylish and functional, with the ability to benefit from added fresh air for engine-cooling purposes.

Dodge also delivers a high-powered infotainment advantage in new-for-2017 Uconnect technology that's available for both Charger and Challenger models. The system's 8.4-inch touchscreen has been improved once again, with more processing power, higher resolution and the ability to recognize typical pinch and swipe controls, and it debuts with the latest Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone-integration support.

And on the topic of Hellcats, yes, both the Charger Hellcat and the Challenger Hellcat return for 2017, complete with their supercharged, 707-horsepower HEMI V8 engines. Just imagine what those will look like in 2020!
