All-new 2019 Ram 1500 Tradesman Model
Posted on March 11, 2020
The Ram 1500 has been one of the most instantly identifiable hard-working full-size light-duty pickup truck segments for quite a while now, but even the very best vehicles have to get updated at some point. The 2019 model year is therefore the point where an all-new Ram 1500 is introduced, so let's take a closer look at how one of the very best trucks of its kind has now been made better than ever in its entry level 2019 Ram 1500 Tradesman form.
Styling
Some people are bound to be upset at the fact the old look of the Ram 1500 Tradesman has now been made smoother, sleeker and more aerodynamic than it's ever been before, but it's what the majority of people consider progress. The front fascia is still indisputably Ram however you look at it, but it's a more modern take on that most familiar feature of Ram trucks. The bumpers are unpainted and the wheels are steel on the tradesman, but that's perfectly in keeping with the worksite and helps the manufacturer offer it for sale at such a competitive price.
Configurations
Even if you've chosen the entry level Tradesman trim there are plenty of ways to configure this sturdy workhorse to tailor it to your specific needs. It's available in two cab styles and two bed lengths, so you can get a Tradesman with a Quad Cab and a 6 ft. 4-inch bed, as a Crew Cab short bed at 5 ft. 7-inches, or alternatively as a Crew Cab with the optional 6 ft. 4-inch bed.
Then of course, we come to the all-important matter of engines, and this is where the new 1500 starts to become a little groundbreaking. As well as the familiar 5.7-litre Hemi V-8 with its 395 horsepower and 401 lb.-ft. of torque, the new Ram 1500 Tradesman comes standard with a 3.6-litre Pentastar V-6 with Ram's eTorque mild hybrid system. With either engine the 2019 1500 is available in standard rear-wheel drive or optional four-wheel drive format.
Standard features and equipment
This might be the base model in the new range, but it still covers all the bases as far as the basic we expect in a modern truck are concerned when it comes to standard features and equipment. Standard kit includes: the Uconnect 5.0 infotainment system with five-inch screen and hands-free calling, one-year of SiriusXM satellite radio, a 12-volt auxiliary power outlet, three USB ports, one auxiliary port and automatic headlamps. That's just the start though, as it also comes standard with a rear-view camera, tilt and telescoping steering column, halogen headlamps, locking tailgate, power door locks, power windows, remote keyless entry and a theft-deterrent system.
Capability
Thanks to the use of high-strength steel and some very clever engineering, the all-new Ram 1500 has managed to shed 102 kilograms (225 pounds) compared to its predecessor. When properly equipped, a 2019 Ram 1500 Tradesman can tow up to as much as 5,783 kilograms (12,750 pounds) and has a maximum payload rating of 1,043 kilograms (2,300 pounds) in its four-door quad cab configuration. Also, every 2019 Ram 1500 model comes equipped with the largest front brakes in the segment at 14.9 inches.
