2019 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara Features and Specs
Posted on August 4, 2020
Jeep is a manufacturer that likes to give buyers a wide choice of trims and options with most of its vehicle models, and the Wrangler is no exception. Once you've decided to take the plunge and buy one of the latest incarnations of this most iconic of Jeep SUVs, which Wrangler do you go for? To help you out, we're going to look at the 2019 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara.
Exterior styling
Wranglers come in two body styles, although they're both very similar apart from their back ends. The standard Wrangler is a two-door compact SUV, but the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara is a longer wheelbase four-door model. The Sahara is one level below the Rubicon, which is the range-topping version of this world-renowned off-road 4x4 vehicle. What sets the Wrangler Unlimited apart from its 4x4 rivals is the fact it's as close as it gets to a convertible. With hardcovers that can be removed when the weather allows, this is a body style that gives you a driving experience, unlike any other serious off-roader.
Drivetrain
There's a choice of engine for under the hood of the Wrangler Unlimited Sahara. The standard powerplant is Jeep's familiar 3.6-litre Pentastar V-6 that develops 285 horsepower and 223 lb.-ft. of torque, which is sent to all four wheels through either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The optional engine is a new one for the Wrangler, a 2.0-litre turbo-four that puts 268 hp and 260 lb.-ft. of torque at the Sahara's disposal. The Sahara comes standard with a two-speed, part-time four-wheel drive system, but it can be upgraded to the optional automatic four-wheel-drive system that operates more like all-wheel drive. If you're a buyer looking for rugged and rough, but your daily drive is more likely to be wet and slippery, this system is a good compromise that's very capable in all weather conditions and very easy to use.
Features and equipment
On the outside, the Sahara comes standard with power heated exterior mirrors, fog lamps, a black three-piece hard top, body coloured fender flares, tubular side steps, and 18-inch polished aluminum wheels Grey spokes and a full-size matching rear-mounted spare.
Although this might not be the most hardcore off-roader in the Wrangler family, it more than makes up for it by going in a more comfortable route. This is exemplified by the standard inclusion of FCA's excellent Uconnect 4 infotainment system with a 7.0-inch touchscreen display; Bluetooth phone connectivity and audio streaming; and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Other interior features include: an eight-way driver's seat, a seven-inch full-colour customizable vehicle information display, an eight-speaker audio system, leather-wrapped steering wheel, remote keyless entry, ambient LED lighting, air conditioning and power windows. The Sahara is one of only two versions of the 2019 Wrangler that come standard with automatic emergency braking, which is a feature some observers would now consider essential.
Safety
This model hasn't been crash-tested to gain official safety ratings yet, but there's little doubt this is the safest Wrangler yet. As well as standard automatic emergency braking, the Sahara also comes with advanced multistage front and supplemental seat-mounted side airbags, ParkView rear back-up camera, electronic stability control with hill start assist, traction control, electronic roll mitigation, and Trailer Sway Control.
