2017 Dodge Journey vs 2017 Ford Edge
Posted on March 10, 2020
At Caledon Chrysler, we want our loyal customers to have as much information about the new and pre-owned vehicles we sell. While we believe our cars, trucks, and minivans are superior to others in the market, occasionally we put our vehicles up against their direct competition. This time around, we thought we would compare and contrast the 2017 Dodge Journey and the 2017 Ford Edge. Let's take a closer look at both.
2017 Dodge Journey
The 2017 Dodge Journey is a versatile crossover that comes in ten bold exterior colours, seating for up to seven, and six trim levels, all of which are loaded with power and performance. On most trim levels you get a 2.4-liter DOHC Inline four-cylinder engine that produces 173 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 166 lb.-ft. of torque. If you need more performance, a 3.6-liter DOHC V6 engine puts out 283 horsepower at 6,350 rpm and 260 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,400 rpm is available. You get full control thanks to the six-speed AutoStick shiftable automatic transmission, you offers 9.5 L/100 km highway and 14.2 L/100 km city in fuel efficiency.* This tough family vehicle can seat up to seven and tow up to 2,500 pounds and you get a fully independent suspension that includes front MacPherson struts and a rear multilink suspension.
You and your passengers are protected by a number of standard and available safety features including:
- An innovative seven-airbag system that includes multistage front airbags, supplemental side-curtain airbags, front seat-mounted side airbags, and a driver's knee airbag
- Advanced Brake System with four-wheel disc antilock brakes
- Parksense Rear Park Assist System
- Parkview Rear Back Camera
To keep you and your passengers entertained, you can add the advanced Radio 8.4 multimedia centre that includes a largest-in-class 8.4-inch touchscreen. Perhaps the best tech feature available for the 2017 Dodge Journey is the Rear-Seat Video Group with DVD, which will keep all your passengers entertained no matter how long the trip.
2017 Ford Edge
The Ford Edge Crossover SUV is available in four trim levels, seats five, and comes in 10 exterior us. One of the biggest things to note about the 2017 Ford Edge is price. The entry-level of this crossover is close to $10,000 more than the base 2017 Dodge Journey trim and very close in price to the premium 2017 Dodge Journey Crossroad AWD.
As far as performance, the Ford comes with a choice of three engines, a six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission with paddle activation, and electric power rack-and-pinion steering. Another disappointment comes in the technology realm. On most trims you get a 4.2-inch colour LCD screen in the centre stack, and even if you add the most advanced media system, the screen falls short of the 2017 Dodge Journey. Most of the trim levels of the 2017 Ford Edge, offer 2,000 pound of towing power.
Overall
In the end both of these crossover have their strengths and we certainly don't have the space to list them all. However, it should be obvious that you get much more for your money when you go with the 2017 Dodge Journey. And no matter which trim you choose, you will get more room for two more passengers with the Dodge Journey.
